What are we talking about today?

I'll get back to theme days once I find a groove of posting regularly. In the meantime, most of my posts are about some variation of books, bikes, buses, or Broadway. Plus bits about writing, nonprofits, and grief from time to time.

This blog is mostly lighthearted and pretty silly. It's not about the terrible things happening in the world, but please know that I'm not ignoring those things. I just generally don't write about them here.

How Many Books Can I Read at Once?

I glanced at my "reading" sidebar the other day, only to discover something astonishing: I had not finished very many books on the list. Given my usual track record with books (pick one up, read in a couple of days, repeat ad infinitum), this is pretty astonishing: Of the ten most recent books I've picked up, I finished three. Four of them I put back down again, and the others are still in progress.

It's not like I'm not reading.
These are just too boring for the sidebar.
I discussed the reasoning behind abandoning a couple of them when I shared the Rule of 50, and I've since given up on one of the Spanish ones as being slightly too hard for me at this point. The others are still in suspended animation, as it were, except María, which is required for a class so I'm sticking to it.

I'll come back to the rest eventually (the Christmas holidays are coming, after all), but right now I'm having more fun writing. And I do have some other, less-interesting books that I'm paying large sums of money to read which should probably retain their priority.

And I also have an extensive blogroll that requires daily checking to be sure my virtual friends aren't having fun without me. ;)

So much to read, so little time? ;-)

I have a similar tbr pile and a endless tbr list. I love it though! :)

Yep. I am so looking forward to Christmas! I don't know that I've had time + no obligations, ever; guess it's time to see how many books I can get through in four weeks! :)

Sometimes it feels like there's not enough time to read; using public transport certainly helps - it's the only way I get through the books I buy, though there are still some tbr and a few that I've been meaning to finish.

I use public transport for homework for now. But yeah, one lifetime is not enough to read everything. :(

I think we all go through peroids like this and I'm sure you'll be back on track pretty soon.

Yep. Uni can't last forever. :) (I hope not, anyway-- that would be really expensive!)

I have a difficulty just giving up on a book altogether, especially if I paid for it. now that doesn't mean I don't drag my feet in finishing it. Plus I usually assume the writer has an amazing ending that is worth getting to.

It helps that I tend to get books secondhand, I guess... 'cause yeah, if I had paid more than a couple of bucks for something, I'd probably hang in there even if I hated it. I do think it's remarkably kind of you to assume that there is an amazing ending coming, though! Usually when I give up on something, it's in a "This isn't getting any better" kind of way.
