What are we talking about today?

I'll get back to theme days once I find a groove of posting regularly. In the meantime, most of my posts are about some variation of books, bikes, buses, or Broadway. Plus bits about writing, nonprofits, and grief from time to time.

This blog is mostly lighthearted and pretty silly. It's not about the terrible things happening in the world, but please know that I'm not ignoring those things. I just generally don't write about them here.

Mug Shot Blogfest

erica and christy are hosting a blogfest today! We're all sharing pics of our favourite mug. This is mine:

I bought it on our most recent trip to Scotland. This mug won out over the one that read, "It wisnae me!" only because of its size; there were no mugs at work that were sufficiently large enough, in my opinion, for my massive daily serving of tea. (The toast rack in the background is nothing to do with this contest; I just like to take any opportunity to show off my toast rack, which I think is the cutest one ever.)

Pop by erica and christy's blog so you can see all the blogfest entries!

Cool mug, and you're right, that toast rack is adorable!

Su said...

Thanks! I got it in Scotland, too. :)

I really like the pic on the mug. What's the purpose of a toast rack?

Su said...

After making toast for the family, you put the slices on the rack & put it on the table so everyone can take a piece. This also allows it to cool a bit, which most Brits (at least the ones I know) prefer. Mine is never used for its intended purpose, mostly because we each make our own toast and eat it right away, and also because we prefer our toast warm so that the butter melts. So it's just decoration in my kitchen. :)

Love it!! If we had a toast rack it wouldn't get used either. If I didn't make my children sit down they would probably eat OVER the toaster.

Your mug is wonderful! Thanks for sharing- I understand about most of them not being big enough!

Wow, I wander off for a few minutes and come back to find visitors! Yay!

@LA: Yeah, that's where I eat. ;)

@Summer: You can never have too much tea!

@PK: It's actually purpler (more purple?) in real life- the camera kind of washed it out a bit.

@Michael: Thanks!

Pretty! I like its purpliness. (awesomely cute toast rack!)

Loving the mug. Yes, I like my toast to cool a bit - is it a British thing? Now you have me thinking.

Lovely mug though I suspect I'd've bought the It wasne me one as it appeals to my silly sense of humour! :O)

Myne said...

This mug reminds me of my years in Scotland, lovely!

I love purple and would have immediately loved this mug had I seen it! And I love large mugs also! Terrific!!!

I know what you mean about size. The bigger the cup the better in my opinion.

On a separate note: I've always wanted to go to Scotland! It's number two or three on my places to see list.

All the mugs in my house are huge because I hate refilling my mug a billion times. Love Scotland... and toast.

@Colene: Me, too!
@Petty: I think so... or at least a Commonwealth thing.
@Madeleine: I stood and debated the two for 20 minutes-- I really like the other one! It was just so small!
@Myne: Where in Scotland did you live?
@Danette: Glad you like it! :)
@Sondrae: Yes, you should definitely go. But make it a summer trip (unless you really like it cold).
@Clarissa: Yes, limiting refills is great. And I could live on toast if my body didn't insist upon the occasional protein.
@iZombie: I'm guessing that by "there", you mean Scotland, and I agree that you should go. :)
@Ellie: Thanks! I like it! :)

Hhahahaha, AWESOME mug and yes that is the coolest toast rack ever. If I had one I would totes "accidentally" include it in all my pictures too.

:D

Cute mug! I seem to have developed a collection (that my mom always buys me) over the years. And thanks for the explanation of the toast rack- I thought I was being a dodo!

You've been to Scotland more than once??!! How fun (and lucky!)! Thanks for sharing the mug and the story - we're happy this turned out to be so much fun for everyone! (and I didn't know what a toast rack was, either, but it sure is cute!)

Su said...

@Mia: Maybe I should pose with it for my profile pic. :)

@Michelle: I've managed to get my grandmother quite a collection in the same way.

@erica or christy: I lived there for 2 years, and have been back 2x to visit since-- but now it's kind of like going home to see the family.

I like "mug shot". I like purple too. And the toast rack, as so many had said is so cute! Wl check out e&c in a bit

Su said...

Thanks, Grandpa! I really did get two of my favourite kitchen things in one shot. :D

I love Scotland, and therefore just about anything from Scotland. :) Great mug (and toast rack).

Su said...

I feel the same way-- we have Scotland flags on our wall! :)

And this is now officially the most comments I've ever had on a post!! Woo hoo!

kar_took said...

I love seeing thing like this because I can go 'I am Scottish, I get to live here ALL THE TIME'. It's nice to be proud of it for a change, rather than appologising for people not understanding my accent.

Yay for Scottish related kitchen utensils (or should that be crockery?) Where did you get the 'toast' rack? I have a friend I know who would love it.

Hart Johnson said...

LOVE the Scotland mug--and size totally would have done it for me, too, even if "It wisnae me!" is just too perfect.

Su said...

@Kar: Don't apologise for your accent! I'm sure it's gorgeous! And you should be proud. :D I got the rack at a charity shop, I'm afraid, although it has "ethos" printed on the bottom, if your friend wants to try contacting the company.

@Hart: I was so drawn to "It wisnae me!" because that's what I always used to say at work when someone had a problem. If only it had been ginormous; then I could have had the best of both! :)

Donea Lee said...

Great color! And jealous ~ I'd sooo love to go to Scotland. Maybe someday...enjoy your day!

alexia said...

Most recent trip to Scotland? Totally jealous! This is an awesome mug.

Su said...

@Donea: Thanks! You should totally go to Scotland!

@Alexia: Thanks! I think it's time for me to go again...

Jenny Beattie said...

Lovely mug. I don't care what anyone says size IS important!

Su said...

It really is. :) This has also become my race-day mug; one very large drink of caffeinated tea tends to make my races go better. Or maybe it's just a "comfort drink", but hey, whatever works!
