What are we talking about today?

I'll get back to theme days once I find a groove of posting regularly. In the meantime, most of my posts are about some variation of books, bikes, buses, or Broadway. Plus bits about writing, nonprofits, and grief from time to time.

This blog is mostly lighthearted and pretty silly. It's not about the terrible things happening in the world, but please know that I'm not ignoring those things. I just generally don't write about them here.

Coming up on a Milestone

By my count, unless something extraordinary happens, I'm a week away from 700 posts here at Cheekyness. (I already passed the 6-year mark on October 1, and the 30-follower mark a couple of weeks ago, so we'll include those in the celebration.) Yay! And while I frantically make up carefully craft the best possible post to celebrate this achievement, I want to also show my appreciation for you, my readers, by holding my very first Cheeky Giveway!

I brought my party hat.
Yep, I'm taking this blog all the way to the fancy-schmancy level. So, here's how to enter:

Every comment from now until the 700th post gets you one entry into the drawing. Linking to my blog (let me know in your comment that you've done so) gets you +5 entries, and all of my followers likewise get +5. You can't win if you don't play! (I've always wanted to say that in context.) I'll stick you all on a spreadsheet & use a random number generator to choose the winner.

Oh, you want to know what the prize is? Well, because I am cheap as well as Cheeky, I'm going to run round to the tourist joints and pick up some Austin-themed stuff. (Unless the winner is from Austin; in that case, I'll think of something else.) And, as a bonus, the winner gets: 1. His/her own Cheeky post, for which I will question you à la James Lipton on Inside the Actors Studio (with a couple of minor edits to his questions, since I'm not much into profanity on my blog), and/or (depending on the preference of the winner) 2. A guest post slot on my blog. And, as a second prize (yes, I'm feeling generous): Another shot at an interview and/or guest post. And that's because you are all crazy-interesting people.

So, get commenting! Get following! Get word-spreading! Start practising your interview/guest blogger skills! And get ready for me to feed your mailbox!

(Note: No, seriously, read this: Not kidding, I'm not listening to any whining later: Facebook comments on the post DO NOT COUNT. Do not. As in, you get no credit for commenting on Facebook. OK? The comment must be right here, on Cheekyness (make yourself a nickname if you want to stay unknown; I'll draw under your nickname and then it's up to you to tell me who you are). That's the only rule, so surely we can all stick to it, yes? Now, let's get this party started!)

Hmm. A question I had not anticipated. How about 5 for the first one, then 2 for each additional one?

Hi Su. I saw you mentioned over at Merieke's blog and thought I'd stop by to say hello. Nice to meet you, I've enjoyed my visit. Oh and well done on all those milestones, here's to many more.

Hi, Petty! Thanks for dropping by! (and for the good wishes!)

Hi. I'll enter your giveaway. I don't live in Austin, that's for sure. I don't think I've ever been there. Hmm. And very cool about the NaNoWriMo. I wanted to do that too, James said, "No Way". And it wouldn't really work with a toddler anyway. Maybe someday, though. :) Have fun!

James said No Way?? Geez, James can be so boring sometimes! ;)

There are people who do it with kids! But I totally can understand why you'd not want to do it right now. Anyhow, you are in the drawing. :)

I don't technically live in Austin anymore and I would be really curious to see what you come up with. I'm in. :D

A special thanks to Eric's Wife for the headsup on the contest here. I would LOVE some Austin Touristy stuff. I miss Austin and all the reminders of home are good.

@Mrs. Eric: That's good, because I already went to the souvenir shop.

@Ginger: Thanks for dropping by! You are entered in the giveway. :)

so this made me wonder (finally) how many posts I've written (this blog and my other family blog combined, but not counting that I have 3 other blogs) and it seems that in 3.5 years, I hit post 1000 when I wrote about Airi's 1st birthday party, which seems appropriate for some reason! Just sharing!

I'm surprised that you have time to blog at all, but I didn't realise that you had four blogs!
