What are we talking about today?

I'll get back to theme days once I find a groove of posting regularly. In the meantime, most of my posts are about some variation of books, bikes, buses, or Broadway. Plus bits about writing, nonprofits, and grief from time to time.

This blog is mostly lighthearted and pretty silly. It's not about the terrible things happening in the world, but please know that I'm not ignoring those things. I just generally don't write about them here.

Teaser Tuesday

The Princess Bride
William Goldman

"Westley had instructed her on how to behave if this happened, and she followed his words now: she spread her arms and spread her fingers and forced herself into the position resembling that of a dead-man's float in swimming, all this because Westley had told her to because the more she could spread herself, the slower she would sink."

Westley? Westley?  All these years I've watched The Princess Bride, and I never knew there was a "t" in the middle of his name! I've been calling Cary Elwes "Wesley" for most of my life. Sheesh.

As you can probably guess, the book fills some gaps left behind by the movie. A must-read for fans of the movie (and a good one for everyone else, too).

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be ReadingAnyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I also thought it was Wesley. Thanks for recommending the book, Niece #1, a huge fan of the film, may even be tempted to read. If not, I'm sure I'll enjoy it.

File under totally unrelated & would have been nice to know in December...

BUT

a great holiday read is a kids' chapter book "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever" by Barbara Robinson

you may remember the 80's made for TV movie by the same name starring Loretta Swit

we love to read it aloud over a few days and then watch the movie

Haven't seen the movie or read the book. I'll be putting it on my reading list for this year though. Should I read the book or see the movie first?

I should read that! I adore the movie (best quotes of any movie EVER)... and I have also, always left out the T. My very first ever blog post quotes him.

"Then why didn't you list that among our assets?" But of course that's the movie...

Definately one of my favorite!

@Petty: Glad I'm not alone!

@Jamie: Thanks! I went to a random page & thought this was a good one (and instantly recognizable to fans!).

@Jenni: Have read it (albeit many years ago) and seen the movie. I remember liking the book more, but that's my MO when it comes to books & movies.

@Runner: I've seen the movie umpteen times & it hasn't detracted from my enjoyment of the book. So I think you probably won't lose by going either way.

@Hart: There really is a Princess Bride quote for every occasion. I haven't gotten to the asset discussion yet... we shall see.

I always thought it was Wesley, too! AND I didn't even know it was a book! That's terrible! Thanks so much!!!! christy (thanks for stopping by our blog today. i did sit and read the hunger games today! i love relaxing!)

I checked IMDB, and wouldn't you know it, it says Westley there, too. Guess it's a general epidemic of mishearing. Or they just didn't pronounce it very clearly. Glad you got to relax!

I did hear the "t" -- thought it was kinda weird. I had no idea there was a book. This movie is a long-time fave in our house!

Cool-- guess it wasn't totally wasted if somebody heard it!
