What are we talking about today?

I'll get back to theme days once I find a groove of posting regularly. In the meantime, most of my posts are about some variation of books, bikes, buses, or Broadway. Plus bits about writing, nonprofits, and grief from time to time.

This blog is mostly lighthearted and pretty silly. It's not about the terrible things happening in the world, but please know that I'm not ignoring those things. I just generally don't write about them here.

P is for Phantom

Hadley!Raoul is my favourite thing about the 25th
anniversary. Yes, even more than Ramin's Phantom.

Phantom of the Opera

Originally opened in the West End on October 9, 1986

Music: Andrew Lloyd Webber

Lyrics: Charles Hart, Richard Stilgoe (additional)

Book: Andrew Lloyd Webber, Richard Stilgoe

BasisLe Fantôme de l'Opéra, by Gaston Leroux

Everybody knows about: He wears that mask for a reason.

I have thoughts: I'm going to see the tour in three weeks' time! Not only me, but also my 83-year-old grandmother, who has never seen Phantom in her life. I'm so excited to share this with her. I tweeted the tour's Phantom, Christine, and Raoul on the day I bought the tickets to share my enthusiasm, and Katie Travis (Christine) was kind enough to respond with a hello for my grandma. Cannot. Wait. (Also: It may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm not wild about Sarah Brightman. I don't own the original cast version for that reason.)

Have you seen any versions of Phantom? What's your favourite part?

Hello, here from the A-Z and great job on the P-post! You are so lucky to be able to experience the PotO with your grandmother! All the best.

omg! love the original phantom with michael crawford as phantom and sarah brightman as christine.

i'm a nerd when it comes to it. i have the original b&w movie with lon chaney, gerard butler's version, and saw some of older ones on pbs and amc and the other classic movie channels. i also have some books, and orginal london cast cd.

there is even a second musical called love never dies that comes from a forsythe book that is the sequel to the story where it takes place in coney island. watched that on pbs. i believe the title of the book is phantom of manhatten but i could be wrong.

I fell in love with Phantom back in middle school. And at the risk of dating myself horribly, The Michael Crawford as the Phantom Broadway cast recording was the very first CD I ever bought, and I listened to it constantly.

Sadly, I've never seen a stage production.

@Nilanjana: Thanks!

@djinnia: I still need to read the book. Not a fan of Love Never Dies, though, except for the song "Til I Hear You Sing." Not even Sierra and Ramin saved that one for me.

@Jennie: Yay!

@MJ: Oh, that is sad. I love love love Michael Crawford.
